Nadal maintained his number one ranking position with 9,875 points.

Nadal faced some restraint from Kyrgios at the start of the match, but the Australian star's challenge seemed to fade after he was docked a penalty point at the 2-5 stage of the first set.

He is now 2360-points ahead of his long-time rival and is favourite to finish the year as the top ranked men's singles player. He grumbled, rolled his head in frustration and questioned chair umpire Mohammed Gilani in the final of the China Open.

The 31-year-old Spaniard was never really in trouble against the temperamental Australian in a 6-2, 6-1 rout in the match that lasted for 92 minutes on Beijing's outside hard courts. Nadal revealed that it was an important title for him and is delighted that he came through a tough draw to win the title.

Nadal won a record 10th Roland Garros French Open championship in early June, winning back his trophy, before claiming the US Open at Flushing Meadows back in September, where he beat Kevin Anderson to triumph at the tournament for a third time. "The previous year that I had the trophy with me was in 2005".

Since then Rafael Nadal has gone on to become one of the greatest players in the tennis history and he underlined his brilliance in swatting aside the 22-year-old Kyrgios in straight games. It is completely different.

"If my vision is realised, it's my hope that I'll be remembered for this more than anything I have done or will do on the tennis court". "The feeling is probably better this year". He won his first in his Beijing debut in 2005. It's a 500 event. Every title later in your career is more special than when you were younger. When I saw the draw at the beginning of the tournament, I knew that it will be very, very hard to have good chances here.

"The first match, the first set, was a little bit of a test for that, just to kind of see where I'm at".
