And, in a big way.
Sindelar replaced David Blough in the first half and had the best game of his career.
Following a MI fumble, Lewerke led a six-play, 46-yard scoring drive late in the first quarter as he split the middle of the Wolverine defense and dove into the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown run to give the Spartans a 7-3 lead. In the past, they received one vote up until their loss to Notre Dame. And he helped make Jeff Brohm's first Big Ten win with the Boilermakers (3-2, 1-1) a memorable one. Probably not. But, you never know. It may be best to sit back and watch the game unfold Saturday night.
The reason for optimism is defense.
Does it happen? Perhaps rarely in an alternate football universe, but even a defense that held the Spartans to 2-of-14 on third down just can't do everything.
MI did receive the ball back with 40 second to play, but with no timeouts, they were forced to eventually attempt a Hail Mary which was batted down by Spartan linebacker Joe Bachie with zeroes on the clock.
Again and again and again and again and again.
"We've done it eight times", Dantonio said. "We did it the hard way, right down to the last second".
Michigan State's offense is led by sophomore quarterback Brian Lewerke. Lewerke threw for only 94 yards, but he had no interceptions and rushed for 61 yards and a TD. There were no big plays allowed by the secondary.
Who knows? For now, this freakish and unconventional offense continues to do enough to keep the Spartans on track in the East.
Michael Hughes threw for two touchdowns and ran for another for Tennessee State (4-2, 1-2 Ohio Valley). After three games, though, Harbaugh is 1-2 against Dantonio. Taking that into consideration, it would've been embarrassing for Michigan State to lose.
Speight was injured during the first quarter against Purdue on September 23 when he was hit awkwardly by a defender while on the ground. When will he be back?
"It was different", O'Korn said. Robbins dropped two punts inside the 20 and booted a 57-yarder at one point.
And the rushing attack gained no traction.
MI could be looking at the possibility of John O'Korn being the team's starting quarterback for the remainder of the season. Yes, the defense is legit.
Wolverines offensive lineman Mason Cole echoed those sentiments. MI found out the hard way Saturday night, and they'll be paying for it with 365 days worth of MSU taunts, just in case they might forget. And it means Michigan's Big Ten title drought may extend to 13 seasons.
And this isn't necessarily just the sentiment of overzealous college football fans; plenty of voices among the national sports media are casting doubts upon Harbaugh, too.
