Among the losses was superstar Odell Beckham Jr., according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan. It is the same ankle Beckham injured during the preseason. He fell awkwardly to the ground, and Chargers players immediately signaled to the sidelines for help. Sterling Shepard and Brandon Marshall both suffered ankle injuries in the second quarter, and Dwayne Harris suffered a broken foot in the third quarter.
The Chargers (1-4) finally got on the board in the second quarter thanks in part to 20 penalty yards racked up by the Giants defense that included a 15-yard unsportsmanlike call against linebacker B.J. Goodson.
The star receiver was carted off the field in tears with what was later announced as a fractured left ankle with four minutes left in Sunday's game against the Chargers.
Beckham had eight catches for 68 yards before being injured.
Now at 0-5 on the season, the Giants are a complete and utter mess. Manning said after the game he did not have a concussion. Just simplify the game plan a little bit. He had his left cleat off as he was taken to the locker room on the cart.
Marshall, who was a key acquisition this offseason, had started the season slowly. His 48-yard grab during the game gave him back-to-back performances with a catch of 40 yards or longer.
Rivers then capped the Chargers' eight-play, 77-yard scoring drive with a 6-yard pass to Gordon to cut the Giants lead to 9-7.
