The movie "Newton" has been sent in the category of "best foreign film" category.
The announcement was made by lead actor Rajkummar Rao on his official Twitter handle today. We are a 70-year-old democracy, and I am glad that with this film we could focus on the need to strengthen our democracy. Masurkar, who had made his directorial debut with "Sulemani Keeda", believes in the philosophy that the only way to make a film one believes in is to make it "regardless of the obstacles". Newton is about a presiding officer in a Naxal hit area who vows to conduct a fair election in his constituency.
The Hindi-language film released today in India to much acclaim, giving it the necessary commercial run to qualify in the category. Bollywood celebrities like Rahul Bhat, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sudhir Mishra, Pankaj Tripathi, Hansal Mehta, Rajkummar Rao, Kalki Koechlin, Anjali Patil, Mukesh Chhabra, Ayushmann Khurrana, Raghubir Yadav and Amit Masurkar attended special screening of the film.
The director of the film Amit Masurkar is equally elated and expressed his joy by saying.
"We have this perception that people who live there are uncivilized". This film has won many awards at worldwide film festivals so now we are looking forward for the release of the film. There is truly no greater honour than representing our country at the global stage. "We have received a lot of support from the industry and critics".
