Texans' JJ Watt and volunteers distribute supplies to Harvey victims

Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have announced a commitment of $20 million in support of relief efforts of Hurricane Harvey.

The 2017 National Football League season is still days away but Texans star J.J. Watt may have already locked up the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award thanks to his heroic efforts during the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

According to the fundraising page, hosted by crowdfunding site YouCaring, the millions of dollars raised for victims of Harvey as part of Watt's fundraiser have donated by more than 170,000 donors.

We've heard it and read it time and again, that dreaded refrain from lousy people on Twitter and angry callers on radio stations and even from some people in the media: "Stick to sports!"

"All 10 semitrucks were donated", Watt said.

Watt appeared remotely on the Ellen DeGeneres Show the day before.

It's inarguable that Watt's celebrity status is the impetus behind the nation's most successful crowdfunding effort for survivors of Harvey.

"In the midst of the worst storm this region has ever seen, it is wonderful to see corporate partners such as Walmart step up and help Houstonians", said Mayor Sylvester Turner.

"I'm not just here for the initial fundraiser", Watt later added.
