Hamlin, who led a race-high 124 laps, scored his second victory at Darlington Raceway in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, sweeping the weekend with the XFINITY Series win Saturday.

It's the Southern 500 from venerable Darlington Raceway.

It was the seventh time in 25 races this season that Truex Jr. has qualified in the No. 2 position. "Having that first pit stall if your vehicle is not handling good, it allows you to make up two or three spots if you have a decent pit stop and hopefully keep that track position all night".

Harvick swept all three rounds of qualifying for the Bojangles' Southern 500 and grabbed the pole with a lap of 177.730 miles per hour.

Truex won the first two stages of Sunday night's race and, after Hamlin's pit road mistake, looked primed to take his fifth victory of the season and extend what could be an insurmountable playoff point lead. Additionally, it is the third time in four years Harvick will start on the front row at Darlington.

Another holiday weekend, another price hike
In Vancouver, McKnight predicted little change on the weekend but McTeague says he expects a five-cent jump on Saturday. Earlier this week SooToday staff reported seeing gas prices as low as 106 cents per litre in the city.

He would not be denied though and with fresher tires reeled in leader Truex.

"Seems like we've been second a lot this year", The said. Hamlin worked his way through the field and was in second with 20 laps to go, though he was six seconds back of Truex. His final turn on the track in Round 3 saw him come in with a time of 27.669 seconds, edging out Martin Truex Jr.by 0.102 seconds. The No. 18 auto will start from the third position after winning two weeks ago at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Denny Hamlin gambled and won Sunday night.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. also struggled during qualifying, only making it into the second round and finishing his day 22nd.

"Our package just didn't have the speed for qualifying", Earnhardt said. The defending NASCAR champion has just two top-10 finishes in his last 11 races, dropping him to 11th in the points standings.
