Blame Harvey for rising gas prices in Minnesota


"Despite the high prices we're seeing, we don't expect it to deter Labor Day weekend travel", Christine Delise of AAA says.

Hurricane Harvey, which wiped out almost a quarter of US gas-refining capacity when it inundated parts of Texas and Louisiana, is sending gas prices up across the U.S.

Gas prices are now $2.38 for unleaded regular in Tampa Bay, $2.41 in Florida, and $2.45 nationally.

"It seems like when things happens in the world, boom, instantly that's where they shoot, right to the pumps", said Joel Mather.

The average cost of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline Friday was $2.28 in Lauderdale County and $2.32 in Colbert County, according to, which provides daily updates for counties across the nation.

It's the highest national September gas price in two years.
